National Christ Child Society
For more than 10 decades, Christ Child Society members throughout the country have served children and families in diversified ways. Recognizing the current complexity of human problems the program, “Challenging Poverty, One Child At A Time”, was launched in 2003 to help chapters maintain Mary Virginia Merrick’s original mission and to inspire Society members with a broad and exciting scope of volunteer opportunities.

In collaboration with local agencies, chapter members create programs designed to best meet the needs of the at-risk children and families in their communities. These programs provide opportunities for education, mentoring, parent support and relationship building as well as provision of basic needs such as clothing, food and in some cases, shelter.
Two of the many outstanding examples of “Challenging Poverty, One Child At A Time: include”:
The Toledo Chapter has developed a new child enrichment program called “Theatre Vision Interactive.” 100 1st grade students will have read to them, “A Very Hungry Caterpillar,” create their own play of the story; construct a caterpillar of their own, and attend a local production of the play. This exciting new program enhances the many excellent literacy and educational programs already in progress. “Parenting Today’s Kids” and “Partners in Learning” are included among the many programs available.
The Texas Capital Area Chapter runs fabulous programs suited to the needs of their community by offering school readiness programs to the children of parents taking ESL classes; mentoring homeless school children — building much needed relationships; and providing hygiene packets to over 500 homeless middle and high school children.
We will continue to seek the most effective ways in which to help ease the burdens of our brothers and sisters, inspired by love of the Christ Child, so that we may continue to be a vital force in the lives of those we serve, and in the lives of our members who serve, “for we are not giving, we are receiving when we help.”
